Room Make Over for Local Teen

Liv’s new oasis. After and before the room makeover.

Recently I teamed up (not for the first time) with local nonprofit Room for Love, to provide a room make over for a 15 year old girl. This is an organization that understands the power our environments have on our well being. Whether a place to recuperate from trauma, or a place for budding creativity, they focus on what is comforting for that particular child, and find a designer to implement it.

I instantly felt a connection with Liv because she loves to draw and read, and she loves plants and animals. Color wise, warm yellows, orange and brown are her thing. It wasn’t easy getting her to voice her requests, cause she is a bit shy; so I had to throw caution to the wind and make some choices.

Fortunately, it worked out great! She loves having a desk area devoted to art, and lots of ambient light to relax in.

We knew we did it right, when we received this text from her mom the next day;

“I just wanted to let you know what you’ve given not only Livvy but her siblings too. Since the room makeover they all hang in her room every night, laughing and joking with each other and enjoying the space. In a house where sadness is always present this has given me a peace as a mother that I’ll forever be grateful for. Fighting depression while watching your kids also be sad is brutal and this new room has lightened the mood significantly. Anything I can say or do to help support your program please think of me. I hope 2026 is light and kind to all of you 💜”

If you have ever doubted the value and impact our environments have on us, this makes crystal clear their importance. Being surrounded by chaos and dirt will bring you down, no matter what. Having a room that takes into consideration what you love, and provides you with a positive space and mood will heal you, and move you forward. Amen.
